About Original Analog
I have a long history of predicting trends. I have no documentation or proof. This blog is intended to document all of my obsessions and offer final proof of my amazing ability to predict cultural shifts. Sometimes I’ll do that through obsessions with products (there was a time that I had to order Moleskines from a store in San Francisco, but now I can get them anywhere in Wichita.) Often, I will talk about cultural shifts that have less to do with products and more to do with a general shift in behavior. Americans are consumers, it’s embedded in our DNA. Our consumption habits provide a clear reference to where we are (or are headed) culturally. Hippies, Punks, Preppies/Yuppies, Grunge…these were all cultural movements that started as small consumer trends in response to the excesses or indulgences of the preceding culture. Grunge gave way to metro-sexual, metro-sexual gave way to creative/intellectual/nerd. Tech geeks were once isolated, billions of dollars later, geeks is the new MBA. Soon, we will see the backlash against tech/nerd/intellectual. I predict the resurgence of analog. Analog will become the new art. Vinyl, letterpress, film cameras (medium format,) oil and acrylic painting of classical concepts to rebuke the ubiquity of computer design.
And then somtime after that, we should be in flying cars and have jetsons tv screens.
